Begins at 6pm sharp, and runs for 3 hours

Do people look for the stampeding buffalo whenever you place your foot on a hold? Do your feet blow out unexpectedly? Do you muscle up steep, hard climbs but fall off the slabby walls? Think that green 18 must be missing some holds? (It’s not). Time to work on your balance and footwork!

This course takes you beyond the principles of quiet feet (though you’ll learn that too), to understand how to drive movement from the feet upwards, how to keep yourself balanced on all kinds of terrain, and how to employ heel hooks, toe hooks, back steps and flagging (don’t know what we’re on about? then you definitely need this class!). We’ll give you some footwork drills you can incorporate into your climbing training.

Instruction will take place on top-ropes and bouldering walls.

INCLUDED in the course:
Full gear -hire (harness, climbing shoes, and chalk)
A 10% discount on any gear purchased on the day

This is an intermediate level course – to give you an idea, these techniques particularly benefit climbers who are working on grades of 16+ on top-ropes. If you are brand new to climbing, check out our Climbing Technique 101 class.

Rockface Members receive 10% off any of our courses.

Introduction to Bouldering (Beginner / Intermediate level) *NEW

Runs on the 3nd Monday of each month
Begins at 6pm sharp, and runs for 3 hours
Maximum number of participants: 8 (minimum of 4)
Cost: $65 per person
All of our classes are available by demand. We require a minimum of four participants.

Been top roping for a while, but find the idea of bouldering intimidating? Bouldering is perfect for those climbers looking to get a taste of the technique needed for powerful, steep climbing. It builds strength and offers you the chance to work on hard moves without getting on ropes. It’s also a great way to spend an afternoon or evening with friends!

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of bouldering: how the grades work and how to start and finish a boulder problem. You’ll also learn: the importance of engaging the core, of when to keep your feet on and when to cut loose; body positioning on overhung walls and on slabby faces; and footwork techniques like heel and toe camming and heel hooks. You’ll come away with some advice on drills and training to help improve your bouldering.
This workshop also makes for an excellent preliminary introduction to lead climbing technique, since nearly all of our lead walls involve at least some steep terrain.
Instruction will take place on the bouldering walls.

INCLUDED in the course:
Full gear-hire (Climbing Shoes and Chalk)
A 10% discount on any gear purchased on the day
This is an intermediate level course – to give you an idea, these techniques particularly benefit climbers who are working on grades of 16+ on top-ropes. If you are brand new to climbing, check out our Climbing Technique 101 class!
