WHO WILL BE THE ULTIMATE CLIMBER?  Huh

UCC2 has issued its posters and set the date in stone - 29th May 2010 it is. UCC2 will be a fun based event with speed, Roped (be it Lead or Toprope) and Bouldering. A combined score from the three disciplines will give you a final score that will reflect your place in your division. There will also be a stand alone dyno comp with some fun and amazing launch and catch sequences to dazzle you and a fantastic prize for highest flying man and woman!.

The Open Division of UCC2 winners (top 4 place getters) will be competeing in a Bouldering Finals (under SCA rules)  to allow qualification into the Nationals to be held in Sydney 23/24th October and hosted by the SCA (Sports Climbing Australia).

The divisions: (male and female classes) will be as such:
OPEN
B GRADE LEAD
TOP ROPE
MASTERS (35+)
JUNIORS (U18)

With Sponsorship from Greats Like Black Diamond, Mainpeak, Evolv, Mountain Designs, Paddy Pallins and Beal, there will be some great prizes up for grabs as well as heaps of spot prizes throughout the day. Not to mention flights to Sydney for the winners.

As per usual there will be Pizza and a drink provided at intermission and the first 50 entrants will collect a gift bag with some fabulous freebies in it. Its rumoured that the coke girls will be back with free mothers throughout the day as well as other outdoor suppliers displays to peruse.

We listened to you about the $40 entry being to high in our last competiton and have managed to bring UCC2 back to $30 prior to the day registration and $35 on the day registration. A bargain day of fun, freebies, prizes and entertainment.

For entry forms visit Rockface, the outdoor stores or your local climbing gym and get one in quick to get a freebie bag.

For full details check out the next post with rules and all the ins and outs.

It will be a great day and I hope to see you there.

Cheers

You will have three hours to compete in all 3 facets and raise a highest possible score. Combined ,the 3 categories have a maximum score of 350 points.

Roped – 150 points (max)
•   All participants depending on category will compete with either 10 top rope or 10 lead climbs which progressively get harder.
•   You do not have to climb all 10 in your division; you start wherever you like, your highest position determines your score.
•   You finish an attempt when you weight the rope use an illegal hold, or top out, scoring the last zone reached.
•   To qualify a score in (example) Climb 5 in the 3rd Zone (of 5 zones) you must have successfully climbed Climb 4 previously.
•   A top out is required to obtain a score in all climbs excluding climb 1
•   A top out does not require a previous climbs success.
•   As many attempts as time permits.
•   You must hold a hold with control (no slapping) to score the corresponding points.

Bouldering – 150 points (max)
   As many attempts as you like. Please be courteous and give others a chance.
   You must start in a coloured taped box, use only same coloured tape holds and finish in the same colour tape box.
   You must hold the final hold with control one or two handed (no slapping) to get a score for that problem.
   All features are counted as “in” unless signed differently.
   You finish your attempt by either “topping out” (good), If you touch the ground or mats (bad), or if you use an illegal hold (bad.)
   You score the 3 highest points achieved during the day. (150 points maximum)
   Spotters are essential on higher problems, no contact with boulderer at all, unless falling.

Speed – 50 points
Sub 7 seconds            50 points
7.0 – 7.99 seconds      45 points
8.0 – 8.99 seconds      40 points
9.0 – 10.99 seconds     35 points
11.0 – 12.99 seconds   30 points
13.0 – 15.99 seconds   25 points

30.0+ Seconds            5 points

Finals
The top 4 placed men and women in the Open division will go into a final, which will be the WA State Boulder Competition to meet Qualification requirements to enter into the Nationals Final in NSW in October. (incidently all finalists will qualify to represent WA if they so choose, they just need to compete in the final to sanction their qualification.) The final will be follow all SCA rules which can be found by following this link.  http://www.sportclimbingaustralia.org.au/1.0/home/default.htm
